A common question how do we calculate the Cubic Meter and Volume weight in the shipping industry. CBM is used for ocean & Volume weight is for Air cargo.
CBM Calculation Formula:
Length X Width X Height/1,000,000 (centimetres) X Total Numbers of Cartoons
e.g.100 cmX90 cm X50 cm=0.45 CBM
Freight Ton Calculation Formula:
1 Metric Ton- 1000 Kilograms
When you have dimensions of boxes first of all convert into Meter
1.5 meter x1.3 meter x 2.4 meter =4.68 cbm
As mentioned, if the rate is quoted as USD .15/ ton and weight of the package is 1500 kg=1.5 tons,that the freight rate is below.
4.68 cbm x USD 0.15=USD .702 or 1.5 ton x USD 0.15 = USD 0.225
Now the CBM rate is higher, the freight rate of USD 0.702 will apply.
