Import General Manifest should be file before arrival of shipment

In India it is now mandatory should file the IGM (Import General Manifest) before arrival of I shipment by the issuing of AWB of Bilt Lading. The or his  authorized agent can file the bill of entry & proceed to complete custom clearance formalities & get the release of cargo.

Once after arrival of goods the carrier files details of cargo about shipper, consignee ,port of origin, port of destination, number of packages, kind of packages, description of goods, weight, airway bill or bill of lading number and date, flight or vessel details etc.with customs department. In some countries, the IGM can also be filed before arrival of goods.

Now a days IGM details electronically linked with export general manifest(EGM) of origin port. However if any short shipment arrived such electronic linking can not be considered to file import documents for importer or his authorized freight forwarder.n India if unable to file the IGM before arrival of shipment than fine & penalty and delay to release the shipment.
